Absence and Illness

At Heart of the Forest Community Special School we believe that pupils need to attend school regularly if they are to take full advantage of the educational opportunities available to them by law. We would therefore like to remind all parents of their legal obligation to ensure that children of compulsory school age attend school regularly, on time, properly attired and in a condition to learn.

Please inform the school of the reason for your child’s absence on the first day. Notification of absence may be by parental notes, personal contact or telephone call.

Parents who wish to apply for leave in exceptional circumstances must gain permission in good time from the Head teacher.

Parents who wish to obtain leave for the purpose of a family holiday during term time must gain permission in good time from the Head Teacher.

Parents are asked not to send their child to school if he or she is ill. This is unfair to the other pupils and staff. If your child becomes ill during the day, we will need to contact you, so please make sure that we have your up-to-date address and telephone number. We will also need an emergency number, for example your work number.

The First Aider treats minor cuts and grazes, an accident report is kept and parents will be informed.

Our school nurse is available during the school day and she responds to medical emergencies alongside our emergency response team.
