In Kestrel class we work very hard to prepare ourselves for adulthood.

We think and talk about what direction we would like to take when we leave school at 19 years old, becoming as independent as possible and improving our confidence and self-esteem.

We work to improve our literacy and numeracy skills as well as using a variety of communication methods and having many multi –sensory opportunities. We follow an accredited course by OCR called ‘Life and Living skills’. We like to keep ourselves as fit and healthy as possible and enjoy participating in many physical activities including trampolining and rebound therapy, PE, gym, walking, cycling, hydrotherapy, swimming, movement and physiotherapy. We also are lucky to go on weekly educational visits.

Some of us also have the opportunity to do the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award in our final year at Heart of the Forest and we all enjoy the leaver’s prom!

We have many work experience opportunities including horticulture, animal care, office work, cafes, Early Years and maintenance. We have students that go offsite to Lydney park, Forest Upcycle and 16 Café Coleford. We also have a thriving mini-enterprise scheme.

We enjoy residential trips and have been to London, Nottingham and Butlins.

Our door is always open and we love to meet new people. You can guarantee a warm welcome from us all.
